Oklahoma Families Helped

Founder. AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. Dog Bite Prevention Educator. Former Vet Tech. Lead Ruffneck. Sass Wrangler. Pro Pet Sitter.

Loreanne Sistrunk Cowan is a proud citizen of the Cherokee Nation and a lifelong animal lover, her roots run deep in Oklahoma red dirt. Born in Guymon, she grew up on a small working farm in SW Kansas — raising everything from goats and chickens to hogs and hound pups — she learned firsthand the power of trust, structure, and the unspoken bond between animals and people. In 2000 she returned to Oklahoma and has been here ever since.

Before stepping into professional dog training as a certified canine behavior specialist, Loreanne spent years as a veterinary technician and ran her own successful pet-sitting business (Loreanne’s Quality Pet Care). That mix of animal health and in-home care gave her a deep understanding of canine behavior, stress triggers, and the emotional needs of dogs — at home and out in the community.

Today, she brings all of it into every session. Clients know her for her bold honesty, deep compassion, and unwavering dedication to helping both ends of the leash succeed. She doesn’t just train dogs — she coaches people, builds trust, and creates lasting transformation.

Grizzmo

Meet the Co-Pilot

Grizzmo: living proof that calm is built, not born.

Loreanne’s trusted training partner wasn’t always the calm, confident dog clients meet today. Adopted as a seven-month-old rescue, Grizzmo struggled with severe anxiety after leaving his quiet country foster for the buzz of the city — the very thing so many Urban Ruffneck dogs are working through.

Through steady structure, patient leadership, and real-world exposure, he transformed. Today, Grizzmo plays an active role in training sessions, pack walks, and community outings — modeling calm, collected behavior and helping other dogs learn to navigate the world with confidence.

If your dog reminds you of where Grizzmo started, you’re exactly who we built this for. Your dog isn’t broken — he just needs a better plan. So do you.

Our Mission

We're in the business of keeping your dog in your home — for life.

Too many good owners are told their dog is “too far gone,” or are quietly nudged toward rehoming when behavior gets hard. We don’t believe that. Reactivity, anxiety, and leash chaos are behaviors we work to change every day — and we’d rather coach you to become the confident leader your dog needs than hand back a stranger’s results.

What We Believe

Four principles guide everything we do.

1

Decisions, Not Dominance

We teach the dog how to make better choices — giving them better options than the negative behavior, instead of ruling by force or fear.

2

Beyond Obedience

This isn’t sit-stay drilling. It’s building real, mutual trust and understanding between you and your canine companion.

3

Train the Human, Help the Dog

We coach owners to become better, more responsible leaders while providing “therapy” for their dogs — understanding and bonding for both ends of the leash.

4

Every Dog Is an Individual

No two dogs are exactly the same. Every plan is tailored to the needs of your dog, your home, and your goals — never a template.

What Sets Us Apart

Not obedience. Not board-and-train. Real behavior change.

Packages FAQ

Lifelong Journey

What is the Lifelong Journey Package?

It’s our flagship dog-training program for the OKC metro: two in-home sessions plus three real-world public sessions, a tailored balanced and fear-free plan, personalized support, lifetime trainer access, and exclusive invites to Ruffneck Rover pack walks. The package runs $1,775–$1,995 and begins with the required $100 in-home consultation.

What kind of training do you offer?

We specialize in balanced, fear-free dog training focused on real-life results. That means structure, calm, and obedience in your home and in public—not just trick training. Whether you’ve got a reactive dog, a wild puppy, or just need a tune-up, we tailor the training to your dog and your lifestyle.

How do we get started?

Every package begins with the in-home behavior consultation. After a short phone call, Loreanne comes to your home, assesses your dog, and builds your tailored plan. If the Lifelong Journey is the right fit, your package builds directly on that plan.

What does "lifetime trainer access" actually mean?

You’re never on your own. When a new challenge shows up months or years later — a move, a new baby, a second dog, a fresh phase of reactivity — you still have a trainer in your corner. Contact us or schedule a session on our calendar when you need help. We’re a partner for the life of your dog, not a one-and-done program.

How is this different from a board-and-train program?

We never send your dog away and hand back a stranger’s results. We train you and your dog together — in your home, then out in the real world — so the calm sticks. No kennel, no regression handoff. You become the leader, which is exactly why the results last.

What are Ruffneck Rover pack walks?

Structured group walks where the training gets real. Lifelong Journey owners earn exclusive invites to practice loose-leash walking, calm greetings, and real-world confidence alongside other dogs and handlers — controlled exposure that builds a dog who can do life with you anywhere. Every walk is a mission, and every step reinforces the structure we teach.

Can you tailor this to my rescue's history?

Every dog is an individual. The in-home consultation builds your plan around your dog’s history, your home, and your goals — no templates. The Lifelong Package is the most popular choice for committed rescue owners who want results that last.

Dog Behavior Consultation

What is a dog behavior consultation, and how much does it cost?

It’s the first step for every client at Urban Ruffneck K9 Training: a no-obligation, in-home visit where Loreanne assesses your dog and your home.

The consultation is $100 and takes about two hours. At the end, we discuss training options and pricing based on your goals.

How does the in-home consultation actually work?

After a short phone call to confirm details, Loreanne comes to your home, observes your dog in its own environment, reads its body language, and talks through your goals and daily routine. You finish with expert insight and a clear, tailored plan.

Why does training start in my home instead of a facility?

Behavior patterns are strongest where they happen — your living room, your doorway, your street. Starting at home lets us see the real behavior and build a plan that fits your life, then move into public spaces once the foundation is solid. No kennel, no regression handoff.

Can a reactive or anxious dog really be helped?

Reactivity, anxiety, and biting are behaviors we work to change every day. Your dog isn’t broken — he just needs a better plan, and so do you. Our goal is keeping your dog in your home, not giving up on him.

What happens after the consultation?

You choose. There’s no pressure to commit. If you’d like to move forward, every package — from the Puppy Primer to the flagship Lifelong Journey — builds directly on the plan we create during your visit.

What type of dogs do you work with?

All kinds—puppies, rescues, seniors, and especially dogs with behavioral issues like reactivity, anxiety, leash pulling, and general chaos. We love a good challenge. If your dog has behavior that’s stressing you out, let’s talk.

Rescue & Puppy Training

What is the Better Together Package?

It’s our foundational program for rescues and older dogs: three powerful in-home sessions that build greetings and boundaries, basic obedience and loose-leash walking, and stronger communication and bonding — all tailored to your home, dog, and lifestyle.

$975 includes the in-home consultation.

What is the Puppy Primer Package?

It’s our starter program for puppies 8 weeks to 6 months: 2–3 private in-home sessions covering potty training, crate and sleep routines, intro to leash, sit, stay and recall, solutions for nipping, jumping and chewing, plus early socialization and confidence building.

$975 includes the in-home consultation.

How long does it take to train a rescue dog?

It depends on the dog’s history and the behaviors involved — every dog is an individual. Better Together is built to make real progress fast across three focused sessions, and many committed owners then move into the flagship Lifelong Journey for ongoing support. Your consultation sets a realistic, tailored plan.

Do you offer group classes?

Nope. And here’s why: group classes don’t give you or your dog the personalized help you need. We focus on one-on-one training, so you get real results, not just controlled class behavior. We do, however, offer Pack Walks for qualified clients through our Ruffneck Rovers program.

Can a rescue with anxiety or reactivity be helped?

Yes. Anxiety and reactivity are behaviors we work to change every day. We build a plan around your rescue’s specific history and your home, using balanced and fear-free methods. Our goal is keeping your dog in your home — not giving up on him.

When should I start training my puppy?

As early as 8 weeks. Early socialization, potty and crate routines, and confidence are far easier to establish than to fix later. The Puppy Primer is designed to start pups right from the very beginning.

What is Puppy Temperament Testing?

$200 evaluation to help your family pick the right puppy — not just the cutest one. As an AKC CGC Evaluator and Dog Bite Prevention Educator, Loreanne assesses energy, temperament, lifestyle fit, and long-term goals. It’s offered on its own and isn’t part of a training package.

Does "balanced" training mean harsh corrections?

No. Balanced and fear-free means clear structure paired with positive reinforcement — clarity over control, always building trust, never fear or pain.
